March 2020

2019 turned out to be a fantastic year of growth, and it looks like 2020 already holds a lot in store.  Thanks to everyone I got to play music with and all those who came out to shows to hear us.  Berklee and Boston were an incredible experience that I’ll always remember and be inspired by.  It made me realize that there is so much more to learn in areas that I didn’t even know about before going.  You can check out my Instagram feed to see lots of pictures of my time there ...

I was very fortunate to win a bursary from the Victoria Bluegrass Association to attend NimbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Workshop & Music Festival in beautiful Sorrento, BC this past August.  In short, it was an awesome time and I got to study with David Benedict for a week.  You can read my full review over at the VBA’s website Tai’s NimbleFingers Review

In December we hosted John Reischman and the Jaybirds here on Denman Island. It was a great night and I was fortunate to be able to open the show for them with Taz Oldaker on fiddle, and my brother Ekou, on guitar. I am working with Concerts Denman again this year and am working on a couple of shows for the coming season. You can check out their website here ... Concerts Denman

If you haven’t seen my “MUSIC” page in a while, I just added 3 videos that you might enjoy checking out.

Right now I am focusing on finishing high school in June. With that said, I already have a few shows this spring/summer lined up that I’m really looking forward to. You can see the dates and places on the SHOWS page. I also  had a couple of shows coming up soon cancelled due to the Corona virus.  Take care of yourselves and wash your hands and hopefully we can put this behind us soon!

Hope to see you soon ...

April 11 2019

It's only been a couple of months since this website first went online and it feels like so much has happened since then.  Wintergrass was so much fun ... catching up with friends, making new ones, and playing music the rest of the time. While at Wintergrass I heard of a bursary opportunity and applied for it.

At the beginning of March I was awarded the NimbleFinger Bursary from the awesome Victoria Bluegrass Association. Thanks to them for the opportunity to study with David Benedict for a week in beautiful Sorrento, BC.  I attended NimbleFingers last year for the first time and had such a good time.  So many great jams and being able to study with John Reischman for a week was unbelievable.  One of my favourite memories from Wintergrass was jamming with the guys from Nomad Jones, who I had met at NimbleFingers.  Good times ...

Speaking of good times, another recent highlight was getting to meet Adrian Gross and the Slocan Ramblers.  They recently came to Merville and we got to open up and jam with them. Definitely check these guys out if you like good bluegrass!

I feel very fortunate to be involved in a few upcoming shows that I'd like to tell you about ...

Saturday April 13 Duncan, BC ~ I will be playing with Queue The Music at the Duncan United Church Coffeeshop at 7pm

Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival - June 14-16.  Really looking forward to this one.  I will be playing with Jenny Lester and Seagrass.  Check out the link for band details.

Cross Pollination Festival ~ June 22 on Denman Island

Canada Day Celebrations in Courtenay, BC 7pm Lewis Park

I would like to thank Berklee College of Music for the partial scholarship that I was recently awarded. It helps a lot and I'm really looking forward to attending there this summer. It's still a ways off, but I can feel it coming up! I've heard Boston is a cool city and I want to explore it a bit while I'm there. I have no idea what to expect and that's exciting.
